SFS (stretch, Flexibility, strength) Classes

New this year are our Ballet, Tap and Jazz Technique classes. These classes are about working hard. Specifically training muscles and tendons for specific steps, strength and balance. Classes are for all age groups as all technique learned will be of value, no matter what age or grade you are. This is a class where repetition, hard work, being specific and concentration are the key to fabulous technique.

Classical Exam Ballet (BBO Syllabus)

These are classical ballet classes where exam work is taught. We study the BDA syllabus which is very technical and consists of barre work, centre work and small exam routines. Turnout, strength, foot work are all taught from the very beginning and are a crucial part of this syllabus, Exams are held at the end of Term 3 for all exam students.

Glee Class (Song and Dance)

This year we are starting Glee Class. This is a singing based classed. The children will learn harmonies, backings, scales and put these new skills to use by singing modern song choices, combining the songs with dance moves and dance items. Dancing and singing are very hard to do together, with breathing and concerntration being tested. A fun class with lots of learning, singing, dancing and laughs.

Jazz (BBO Syllabus)

These Jazz classes emphasis on technique and is where exam work is taught. We study the BBO syllabus which consist of barre work, centre work and small exam routines. Exams are held at the end of Term 3 for all exam students. Jazz promotes strength, flexibility, movement, and we concentrate on isolations and body co ordination.

Hip Hop (Freestyle)

This fantastic style of modern dance is so much fun, can be done at beginner level - or right through to commercial professional level.

Modern Expressive/ Contemporary/ Lyrical

This style of dance is very popular. It is like a combination of fast ballet and slow jazz. It very much involves strength, power, expression but rellies heavily on grace, stretch and technique.

LGTDA/Newcastle Exam Tap Syllabus

This tapping syllabus is in my opinion, the best around. It teaches very sound tapping technique right from the earliest grade. Concentrating on clear, precise sounds and movements. Flexibility of the ankle and control of the body. We study this syllabus which is very technical and consists of barre work, centre work and small exam routines. Exams are held at the end of Term 3 for all exam students.

Acrobatics

Is a form of tumbling and tricks where strength, flexibility and coordination are essential and are strongly concentrated on. Tricks such as Handstands, bend backs (arches), cart wheels, forward and back ward rolls and splits are all taught and then as the children advance, so do their tricks, right up to doing back flips.
